Last week the Kindergarten children all went on an a excursion to Wildlide Sydney. It was a fantastic day! The children saw so many interesting animals ...... you might even spot some of them in the slideshow below! A big thanks goes to all of the enthusiastic parents who joined in on the day. At the end of last term the kindergarten children celebrated their hard work with a Monsters party. They played monster games, made monster crafts and ate monster food. It was lots of fun!
What did you like best about the monsters party?
On Monday it was International dot day. From the official website: International Dot Day, a global celebration of creativity, courage and collaboration, began when teacher Terry Shay introduced his classroom to Peter H. Reynolds’ book The Dot on September 15, 2009. The Dot is the story of a caring teacher who dares a doubting student to trust in her own abilities by being brave enough to “make her mark”. What begins with a small dot on a piece of paper becomes a breakthrough in confidence and courage, igniting a journey of self-discovery and sharing, which has gone on to inspire countless children and adults around the globe. We watched the story on the smartboard and had a conversation about the message in the story. The children thought it was important to always use your imagination and never give up. Then we got busy and began creating lots of dots in warm and cool colours with our Year 6 buddies. (We took our inspiration from this website). Our work is hanging in the library - please drop in and have a look! We also used the Colar App for some fun with augmented reality. If you visit the website you can download the colouring page, then bring your work to `life'! What a dotty day!
KD have been working with the other Mrs Dowling (RFF) talking about how they have changed and grown from a baby to a school aged child as part of their 'I Am Special' Health/PD unit. They wrote about what they could do as a baby and what they can do now as a school age child. This was recorded using the 'Explain Everything' iPad app and they drew a lovely illustration for their presentation. Please view their work below and it can also be found on the 'ES1 Term 3 Students' Work' page on our website. KD's 'When I Was A Baby' from Sue Dowling on Vimeo. We used the Momo art lab app (free) to make shape pictures. Then we imported them into Draw and Tell and used the recording tool to describe the shapes that we used. Here are some to watch (more to come!). Can you think of a picture that you could make with shapes?
The KD kids have been learning about 3D shapes. Look around your house. Can you find any of the 3D shapes in the song? Bring them into school for our 3D shape collection. (You can take them home next week).
Kindergarten are getting ready for Grandparents Day on the 11th September, 2014. Last week we posted invitations to our Grandparents. Postman's track was very slippery and wet in the morning so decided not to walk down to the street post box. Instead we put them into a special bush post box! We can't wait for our Grandparents to write replies so that we can read them together in class!
KD start each day reading from their book boxes. The children read, talk, share and learn together. They also love to listen to me read them many stories .....everyday! Please mark off an extra 30 minutes per day (for time spent reading at school) on your Read-a-thon cards before collecting the money from your sponsors and sending it to class. The class that collects the most wins a class party! Go KD!
Do you like making things? Do you like cooking? Do you like playing outdoors? If you do then click on the picture for some new ideas to try. Some patterns can be described as increasing or decreasing patterns. We are going to use these games to practise increasing number patterns. Can you think of any decreasing number patterns? |
