Karen has just had a beautiful baby boy and she took him to playgroup to meet some other babies. She was sitting with 7 other mothers having a lovely morning, when suddenly the babies all started crying. The mums searched frantically for dummies to give to the babies but they had a problem..... they could only find 3 dummies! Karen wanted to know how many more dummies they would need to buy so that there was enough for each baby to have one. The KD kids set about solving the problem.
They used different strategies to solve the problem and share their thinking:
- some drew pictures
- some wrote numbers and words
- some used the unifix blocks
- some counted up
- some used their fingers
- some used combinations of all these strategies
They were really persistent and didn't give!
