KD are learning to tell the time to the hour eg. 4 o'clock. We are learning to read digital clocks and analog clocks. What kind of clocks do you have at your house? Give examples.
Summer's grandparents came to school today to watch Summer receive a Principal's Award at assembly. Afterwards they came to our classroom and told me how much they enjoyed listening to the children sing our school song. You might like to listen and sing along at home too! Please note: I have also created a page link to it at the top of the page under the `more' tab.
Yesterday was Open Day and our parents came to visit our classroom. We read to them, showed them our work, played maths games and used the ipads to take photos. After our parents left, we wrote about our day. We had a lovely day! Thank you to all our visitors.
As part of their unit 'Keeping Ourselves Safe' , KD investigated how the key words of 'Stop, Look, Listen and Think' keep them safe when crossing the road. The 'WordFoto' app on the iPad was used to add their special safety word to their photos. What do you do to keep you safe when you cross the road?
It's time for some Chicka Chicka Boom Boom fun in KD! What is your favourite letter? Why is it your favourite?
Every day the KD kids persist. This means that even when things are challenging, they don't give up. If one way doesn't work they try another, and another, and another .......until they solve their problems. Ormie is just like the KD kids. He really wants a cookie and never gives up trying! Ormie makes us laugh every time we watch him. Ms Dowling has been telling everyone how well the KD kids solve problems. So this week when Ms Dowling's sister Karen had a problem, she asked if KD could help her solve it! Karen has just had a beautiful baby boy and she took him to playgroup to meet some other babies. She was sitting with 7 other mothers having a lovely morning, when suddenly the babies all started crying. The mums searched frantically for dummies to give to the babies but they had a problem..... they could only find 3 dummies! Karen wanted to know how many more dummies they would need to buy so that there was enough for each baby to have one. The KD kids set about solving the problem. They used different strategies to solve the problem and share their thinking: - some drew pictures - some wrote numbers and words - some used the unifix blocks - some counted up - some used their fingers - some used combinations of all these strategies They were really persistent and didn't give! The next day we found this game and tried out some of the strategies that our friends had shared with us to solve the problem - How many more dummies are needed? You might like to try this at home. If you do then please leave a comment and describe one of the dummy problems that you solve.
